General Dental Care

At The Park Dental Clinic, we believe that adult and children should have regular check ups to avoid and prevent dental problems in the future. Our dentist will give you advice on good oral health, timely dental treatment and cosmetic enhancement like teeth whitening and other cosmetic treatments.

Check up & x-ray

Our dentist recommend regular check-up to see how healthy your mouth is, whether you might need some work done and, in the case of children, how the teeth are growing and developing. The dentist will have a good look round inside your mouth, checking the teeth, as well as your tongue, the soft palate, the inside of your cheeks and the roof of your mouth. The dentist will also look at your face and neck and feel under your jaw.

As well as looking in your mouth, the dentist will ask you some questions, like whether you have had any pain or sensitivity in your teeth or gums recently, what your general health is like, whether you're on any medication at the moment, what your diet is like and whether you smoke or drink alcohol.

Your dentist will tell you how often you need to have a check up.

Hygiene Treatment

Our specially trained hygienist play an important role in dental health care and are mainly concerned with gum health, showing people correct home care and applying preventive materials to the teeth and gums.

However, perhaps their most important role is showing the patient the best way to keep the teeth free of plaque. They also give advice on diet and preventing dental decay. The dentist and hygienist work together to provide care tailored to your needs.

White or composite filling

If part of a tooth has been lost through decay or damaged due to an accident, a filling may be required. A filling will plug the hole and stop any future pain or discomfort. A filling can be made out of a variety of materials.

The white or composite fillings which match the colour of the natural tooth better. White fillings are becoming more popular.

Crowns & bridges

A crown is like a special sleeve made of metal or porcelain, or both, that goes over a damaged or weak tooth.  Your dentist will match it up to the shape – and, in the case of porcelain crowns, colour - of your other teeth so it will look natural. The crown will probably last for many years, depending on the health of the tooth underneath.

Extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of the tooth from its socket in the bone.

The reason you may require a tooth extraction is because either:

  • there is not enough room for it and it will become impacted (in the case of wisdom teeth surgery)
  • it must be removed to assure that the rest of your teeth grow properly
  • it so severely decayed that it is beyond repair.

Here at The Park Dental Clinic our dental surgeons are highly experienced at carrying out tooth extractions using the latest techniques. We aim to make your visit as comfortable and painless as possible.

Gum problems

Gum disease describes swelling, soreness or infection of the tissues supporting the teeth. There are two main forms of gum disease: gingivitis and periodontal disease.

What is gingivitis?
Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums. This is when the gums around the teeth become very red and swollen. Often the swollen gums bleed when they are brushed during cleaning.

What is periodontal disease?
Long-standing gingivitis can turn into periodontal disease. There are a number of types of periodontal disease and they all affect the tissues supporting the teeth. As the disease gets worse the bone anchoring the teeth in the jaw is lost, making the teeth loose. If this is not treated, the teeth may eventually fall out. In fact, more teeth are lost through periodontal disease than through tooth decay.

Dentures

Replacing lost or missing teeth has substantial benefits for your health and appearance. A complete or full denture replaces the natural teeth and provides support for cheeks and lips. Without this support, sagging facial muscles can make a person appear older and reduce their ability to eat and speak. A denture is an appliance which is worn to replace lost or missing teeth to enable you to enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. A complete or full denture is one that replaces all of the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws.A partial denture fills in the spaces created by lost or missing teeth and is attached to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices called precision attachments.

Root canal treatments

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure to treat infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal system). Root canal treatment is also called endodontics. The infection is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth and invade the tooth when: tooth decay occurs, fillings leaks and teeth are damaged by trauma, such as a fall.
